The winners of 2013's summer blockbuster season

Blockbusters of the summer season have ended. It is time to see which films made a huge success. If we should summarize the main theme of this new season, I think I could say that it is the end of the world. Let’s get started for a few examples!

First of all, it was Tony Stark’s comeback (embodied by the famous Robert Downey Jr.) with Iron Man 3. This time, this hero

is confronted with a new threat; he is tested all the time and his ingenuity will help him to face adversity. At the end of the movie, Stark will finally disc

over the answer to the question that has haunted him secretly: Is this the man who makes the costume or the costume that makes the man? A great episode of this incredible trilogy.

But Iron Man 3 is not the only film about the world’s end. World War Z, a Marc Foster’s film with the amazing Brad Pitt, deals with the adventure of a family in a city where a deadly virus is spreading. The moral of the story? Even the most kindly people show their dark face, nobody is safe. However, be careful with the violence of this movie, it is forbidden for people under twelve years old.

Moreover, a new version of Superman also talks about the end of the world: Man of Steel with Henry Cavill. Everybody knows the story of Superman. One day, a boy discovers he has supernatural powers and that he was not born on Earth. You know that, he tried to understand where it comes from and why he was sent on our planet and his future mission is being a hero and saving the world from total destruction. Nevertheless, this new version is different because of the incredible special effects and permits us to rediscover the universe of our favorite superhero.

But maybe you prefer mutants to superheroes. So let me introduce the new version of The X-Men’s franchise: The Wolverine. I found it very well-done because in my opinion, action/fantastic films like that are so exciting. The story is about a confrontation between Wolverine and an old friend he saved during the Second World War. According to the website Allociné, this new episode of X-Men is one of the top but in my opinion, The Wolverine is not the most incredible.

Now, let’s see the new Tom Cruise’s blockbuster. During this summer, Tom Cruise was the main character of Oblivion, a sci-fi movie that deals with a war between human beings and aliens. I was not extremely convinced by this movie, maybe because of its lack of originality: the story is predictable. I invite you to watch it and to make your own opinion about it.

Now, change of program: a lot of fun with the new movie of Disney Pixar: Despicable 2 (Moi, Moche et Méchant in French). The main character, Gru, is confronted with this second episode to a new kind of life and more precisely of a family life with his three little girls. I know, we can think that this movie is only targeted to children. But I can assure you that this funny movie made me laugh a lot. Despite the conversion of Gru, this atypical character will be confronted to a new mission: saving the world with his new friend, a beautiful spy named Lucy. Please, watch it.

During this summer, Pixar produced another blockbuster. After Monsters, Inc., return in the past with Monster Academy! You will discover that Sulley and Mike were just two Scaring majors at Monsters University before their other adventures that everybody knows. During this movie, we can see them find themselves, meet new friends and be confronted with new problems, until their arrival at Monster Company. A very funny movie.

Finally, if I had to choose one movie in all the films I watched, I could say that the better film of the summer is The Great Gatsby with

Leonardo di Caprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan. First of all, I really like the book it was based on. The story takes place in 1922. Nick Carraway, a young man from Minnesota, moves to New York to learn about the bond business and will meet a rich man from the region of West Egg, his neighbor, a mysterious man named Gatsby. The decorations are sublime, the music very attractive, the story is excellent and the casting is exceptional. I really recommend it to you.
